Norwegian Cruise Lines | For All Maritime
“We were thinking flippy floppies…”
Client: Norwegian Cruise Lines
Director: Jim Jenkins
Agency: Arnold Worldwide
VFX Studio: Parliament
Role: Creative Lead
Tools: Houdini, Maya, Arnold
The Brief:
Create expansive, believable environments that felt cinematic and grounded. The work needed to convincingly integrate water, sky, light, and motion to support a range of atmospheric conditions while maintaining realism and scale.
Our Challenge:
The primary challenge was extending partial sets and delivering full CG ship shots across a wide range of lighting conditions. This included building believable oceans and sail motion, integrating DMP skies, and adding subtle 2D camera movement and prop warping to help sell the feeling that the boats were truly in motion.
My Impact:
I oversaw the CG team throughout production, contributing to both technical execution and creative decision-making. I worked closely with the client and 2D creative leads to align motion, lighting, and environment work, helping ensure the final shots felt cohesive and believable.
