Keepin’ it Oscar

Client: Kraft Heinz
Director: Kyle Sauer
Agency: Johannes Leonardo
VFX Studio: Carbon
Role: Lead CG Artist
Tools: Houdini, Maya, Arnold

The Brief:
Deliver a confident, playful spot that leaned into the brand’s irreverent tone, using a surreal visual shift to create a memorable, high-impact moment that felt bold, tactile, and fun.

Our Challenge:
Embedding a live-action woman into a fully CG sandwich environment at a macro scale while maintaining photorealism. This required careful asset capture, believable surface detail, and cohesive lighting and simulation so the human element felt naturally integrated within the scene. We needed to ensure that the end product came off as comforting instead of suffocating under a pile of giant turkey slices.

My Impact:
I was responsible for all aspects of CG on the spot, from asset creation through final look development. This included photo scanning food assets, processing and building textures, and establishing the look development for every element in the scene. I also simulated the entire piece in Houdini using Vellum, ensuring the motion, interaction, and final visuals felt cohesive and grounded. The spot was later recognized as an Editor’s Pick, contributing to Kraft Heinz being named one of Ad Age’s Marketers of the Year.
